This Privacy Policy explains how your data is handled when you use the CNDWN countdown app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch (the “App”). CNDWN is designed to be privacy-friendly: your countdowns stay on your device and in your own iCloud account, and we do not sell your data or use advertising trackers.
1. Who is responsible (Controller)
The controller responsible for data processing under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Konstantin Schillhahn
[Street and house number]
[Postal code and city]
[Country]
Email: [email protected]
Please replace the highlighted placeholders with your full postal address before publishing.
2. Overview & principles
CNDWN is built around a few simple privacy principles:
- No account required. You do not need to register or log in to use the App.
- Your content stays yours. The countdowns you create are stored locally on your device and, if enabled, synced through your personal iCloud account — not on our servers.
- No advertising. The App contains no ads and no advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
- No selling of data. We never sell or rent your personal data.
- Privacy-friendly analytics only. We use anonymized usage statistics to improve the App (see Section 7).
3. Data stored on your device
When you create countdowns, the following content is stored locally on your device using Apple’s Core Data framework:
- Countdown titles, emojis, notes and dates/times you enter
- Colors, icons and display preferences you choose
- App settings and notification preferences
This data is processed solely on your device to provide the App’s core functionality. It is shared with the CNDWN home-screen / lock-screen widgets through a private App Group container on the same device, and it may be indexed in Spotlight so you can search your countdowns from the system search.
4. iCloud sync & sharing
If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is enabled for CNDWN, your countdowns are synchronized across your own Apple devices using Apple’s CloudKit service. This data is stored in your private iCloud account. We have no access to your private iCloud database, and the data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. In this context, Apple acts as a processor / infrastructure provider.
Sharing & collaboration
CNDWN lets you optionally share a countdown with other people so you can count down together. When you share a countdown, the relevant countdown data is made available through Apple’s CloudKit sharing mechanism to the people you invite. Only data you actively choose to share is shared, and you can stop sharing at any time from within the App. Anyone you share with may see the shared countdown’s contents.
5. Notifications
With your permission, CNDWN can send you notifications to remind you about your countdowns. Scheduling and delivering these reminders is handled by the operating system on your device; the reminder content is generated from countdowns you created. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your device’s Settings.
6. Calendar access
CNDWN can optionally read events from your calendar so you can quickly create a countdown from an existing event (for example a birthday or holiday). This access is only used when you choose to import a date and only with your explicit permission via the system calendar-access prompt. Calendar data is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can revoke calendar access at any time in your device’s Settings.
7. Analytics (TelemetryDeck)
To understand how the App is used and to improve it, CNDWN uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service provided by TelemetryDeck GmbH, Brunnenstraße 192, 10119 Berlin, Germany. TelemetryDeck is designed for GDPR compliance and processes data on servers in the European Union.
What we receive through TelemetryDeck is anonymized and may include:
- Anonymous usage signals (e.g. that the App was launched or a feature was used)
- Type of device, operating system and version
- App version, language and region settings
TelemetryDeck does not use cookies and does not store a persistent advertising identifier. A non-reversible, salted hash is used to roughly estimate the number of distinct users without identifying any individual. IP addresses are only used transiently to derive coarse, anonymous information and are not stored by TelemetryDeck. We cannot use this data to identify you personally.
TelemetryDeck acts as a processor on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). More information is available in TelemetryDeck’s Privacy Policy.
Objection: Because these statistics are anonymized, they generally cannot be tied back to you. If you nevertheless wish to object to this processing, please contact us using the details in Section 13.
8. Legal bases for processing
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Providing core App functionality (creating and displaying countdowns, widgets) | Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract / your request |
| iCloud sync & sharing | Art. 6(1)(b) and your activation of the feature |
| Notifications | Art. 6(1)(a) — your consent (system permission) |
| Calendar import | Art. 6(1)(a) — your consent (system permission) |
| Anonymized analytics to improve the App | Art. 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the App |
9. Data retention
- On-device data remains until you delete the countdown or uninstall the App.
- iCloud data remains in your iCloud account until you delete it; it is controlled by you and your Apple ID settings.
- Analytics data is retained by TelemetryDeck in anonymized form according to their retention policy.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15)
- Rectify inaccurate data (Art. 16)
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”, Art. 17)
- Restrict processing (Art. 18)
- Data portability (Art. 20)
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21)
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing (Art. 7(3))
Because most of your content is stored locally and in your own iCloud account, you can exercise many of these rights directly — for example by editing or deleting countdowns in the App, or by managing your iCloud data in your device settings. To exercise any right against us, contact us using the details in Section 13.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement.
11. Children
CNDWN is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the App or legal requirements. The current version is always available at this page, and the “Last updated” date at the top indicates when it was last revised.
